It should be no surprise that the best foods come in the form of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains. But this does not mean that you have to only eat these foods. You can generally find the nutritional information on the labels of most food to see which are highest in nutrients and which are full of fats and cholesterol.

 

While it is not necessary to keep a daily food log, it may be helpful to at least take one day to log what you eat; the results might be eye-opening. In his book The Belly Off Diet, author Jeff Csatari says that the first time he did this, he was shocked to discover that he ate 4,500 calories in one day, over twice the amount recommended for a moderately active person.
